About This Visa

Indian ordinary-passport holders need a short-stay C to visit. Ireland does not issue e-visas or family visas — each person files. Staff path: create the form only on AVATS (https://www.visas.inis.gov.ie/AVATS/OnlineHome.aspx), print and sign, then lodge in person at VFS in India for biometrics (age 5 and over unless exempt). The Visa Office in New Delhi decides. Do not use visa.vfsglobal.com/ind/en/irl — it does not load. Do not pay a fee on AVATS; fees are at VFS (or a demand draft to the Embassy of Ireland if they are not on VFS).

No flight booking for the file — tickets before a decision are their own risk. From 1 June 2026 there is no appeal on an ordinary short-stay refusal; they file a new AVATS. EU free-movement family C still has an appeal path. Honorary consuls in Bangalore, Chennai, and Kolkata are not visa counters. The Visa Office has no public counter.

Documents Required

Embassy New Delhi visit checklist + ISD tourist page

  • Printed, signed, dated AVATS summary. VFS payment receipt with the same IRL… number. Completed visit checklist
  • Passport valid 6 months after leaving Ireland. Previous passports if they have them. Replace a damaged passport before lodging
  • Cover letter: reason, itinerary, and any family/friends in Ireland or the UK. Tourism: accommodation bookings in Ireland. Visit family/friends: signed invitation, host passport copy, IRP copy if they have one
  • Up-to-date bank statements covering the last 6 months, enough for the trip. Employed: 3 latest payslips and employer letter (how long employed, leave dates, return-to-work date). Student: college letter with course, years done/left, and return
  • Originals, English, verifiable. Certified translation if needed. DigiLocker papers help verification. Disclose every past visa/preclearance refusal with the original letter — hiding one is a refusal
  • Insurance: ISD says show medical/travel insurance at the Irish border if asked; it is not listed as a lodge item on the New Delhi visit checklist

2. Good to Know

Rules and notes that apply to every visa type

How to apply

  1. AVATS only — other sites taking a fee are scams (Embassy 4 Oct 2023 notice). Print, sign, date.
  2. Book VFS in India. Delhi VAC reaches the Embassy the next working day; other VACs in two. The 6–8 week clock starts at Embassy receipt. Return is Blue Dart from Delhi VAC, usually about two working days after that.
  3. Pay INR 5,300 or 9,000 at VFS. Do not buy tickets first. Track decisions on the Embassy daily list (from about 11:00 IST), not by emailing for status.

Who can apply

  • Indian ordinary-passport holders living in India: AVATS then VFS in India.
  • British-Irish Visa Scheme: Indian nationals applying from India may travel the Common Travel Area on one visa if it is marked BIVS — they must enter the issuing country first and travel onward inside that leave. Not for Indian nationals who already live in the UK.
  • Short Stay Visa Waiver: some UK visitor visas also let them go on to Ireland after a UK entry stamp — check the ISD SSVWP rules.
  • Nepal: VFS Kathmandu. Bangladesh: post to this Embassy or VFS Kolkata. Sri Lanka: honorary consulate Colombo, not India VFS. Maldives ordinary passports: not visa-required.

  • Passport photos as the visit checklist marks
  • Biometrics at VFS if resident in India and aged 5 or over, unless ISD lists an exemption. Originals scanned at VFS and returned the same day
