1. Visa Types

Processing time

Decision within 2–3 working days after a paid file. Apply at least 10 days before travel. Government does not charge extra for fast-track.

Stay period

Single entry, up to 3 months.

Validity

Approval letter valid 90 days from the approval date. Travel inside that window or file again.

About This Visa

Indian ordinary-passport holders need a visa before travel. Holiday default: Ordinary / Tourist on https://visas.immigration.go.ug — pay by Visa or MasterCard, wait for the approval letter, print it, and carry a passport with at least 6 months’ validity.

India is not on the ordinary visa-exempt list (only Indian diplomatic / official passports appear on that exemption list). Do not send them as visa-on-arrival. Use only the official portal — Immigration warns about scam e-Visa sites.

Documents Required

Tourism — Immigration service page

  • Passport bio-data page (at least 6 months’ validity)
  • Recent passport-size photograph
  • Travel itinerary / booking
  • Hotel booking or other accommodation address
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate (listed on the mandatory online-visa notice and the how-to-apply page)

All uploads in English. Extra papers may be asked during review. Fees are non-refundable; card payments take a bank charge.

Processing time

Same portal clock as other visas — leave several working days; apply at least 10 days ahead.

Stay period

90 days. Not renewable after expiry or after leaving the Kenya–Uganda–Rwanda block.

Validity

90 days from issue for tourism only. First entry must be the issuing country.

About This Visa

Joint tourist visa for Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda only. File on https://visas.immigration.go.ug. First landing must be in the country that issued it. Do not sell it for work or for travel outside that three-country block.

Processing time

Same portal clock — decision within a few working days after payment; apply at least 10 days ahead.

As granted for the chosen duration (6, 12, or 24 months on the service page).

Validity

Multiple entries for the granted duration. No employment.

About This Visa

Use when they need repeat entries over months. Charge the amount the portal shows for the chosen duration at payment.

  • Police clearance from Interpol or home country
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate
  • Recommendation letters from two referees in Uganda
  • Cover letter stating reasons for multiple entry

Maximum 7 days. Not extendable.

About This Visa

Only when Uganda is a stop on the way to another country. File on https://visas.immigration.go.ug.

Documents Required

Transit

  • Passport bio-data page (at least 6 months’ validity)
  • Recent passport-size photograph
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate
  • Letter stating reason for transit and destination country
  • Proof of permission to enter the destination country

How to apply

  1. https://visas.immigration.go.ug — start a new application, accept the disclaimer.
  2. Choose Visa → category (Ordinary, Multiple-Entry, Transit, or East Africa Tourist Visa) → subcategory.
  3. Fill the form, upload papers, submit, then pay by Visa or MasterCard.
  4. Track under Manage application. Print the approval letter and carry it with the passport (6+ months) to the border.

Who can apply

  • Indian ordinary passports: online visa before travel. Not visa-exempt. Not visa-on-arrival.
  • Indian diplomatic / official passports: listed on Immigration’s diplomatic/official exemption list — ordinary passports still need a visa.
  • Holiday default: Ordinary / Tourist (USD 50). EATV only when the trip is Uganda + Kenya + Rwanda tourism.

How to track

Portal Manage application / check status with the application number. Decision and approval letter also go to the email on the file.

Watch-outs

  • Official portal only: https://visas.immigration.go.ug — Immigration publishes a fraud warning about other e-Visa sites.
  • No visa on arrival for visa-prone travellers, including India ordinary passports.
  • Yellow fever certificate is on the mandatory notice and several visa document lists — carry it.
  • Approval letter expires 90 days after approval for Ordinary / Tourist — travel inside that window.
