INM lists official alternatives to that visa: a valid visa of Canada, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom or any Schengen country; or permanent residence in Canada, the US, Japan, the UK, any Schengen country, or Pacific Alliance members Chile, Colombia or Peru. An APEC Business Travel Card approved by Mexico also works for air entry for business.

Present the passport and the alternative document at Immigration. Stay for tourism / unpaid activities is still capped at up to 180 days as the officer grants.

About This Visa

Without a qualifying US / Canada / Japan / UK / Schengen visa or permanent residence, Indian ordinary-passport holders need a Mexican visitor visa (sin permiso para realizar actividades remuneradas) for tourism, business meetings or other unpaid short stays of up to 180 days.

Book the appointment only on citas.sre.gob.mx. Attend Embassy New Delhi or Consulate Mumbai with originals. Pay the USD 56 fee (INR at the mission’s monthly rate) on the appointment day as instructed — payment does not guarantee approval. Biometrics and interview are part of the appointment.

Documents Required

  • Passport in force — original and copy
  • Proof of legal stay in India if not an Indian national
  • Visa fee payment as the mission instructs (USD 56 / monthly INR equivalent)
  • Prove one of the listed cases, commonly economic solvency:

Economic solvency (typical tourism path)

  • Job or pension with monthly income for the last three months and stable employment of at least one year; or
  • Investments / bank accounts for the last three months; or
