About This Visa

Indian ordinary-passport holders need a visa. India is not on Myanmar’s visa-free tourist list (that list is ASEAN only). India is on the official tourist e-Visa nationality list.

Usual staff path: Tourist e-Visa on https://evisa.moip.gov.mm. Fill the form, pay USD 50 with Visa, Mastercard, or JCB, wait for the approval letter, and travel with the same ordinary passport. Single entry. Stay 28 days from arrival. Enter any day while the approval letter is still valid (90 days from issue). If the letter has expired, they will be refused entry. The fee is not refunded.

An acknowledgement email should arrive within one hour of a successful payment. Processing time starts from that email, not from when they first opened the form. Minimum three working days, Myanmar time.

Documents Required

Official e-Visa notice — https://tourism.gov.mm/en/e-visa

  1. Ordinary passport, valid at least 6 months. Passports only — travel documents are refused

  2. One colour photo, 4.6 × 3.8 cm, taken in the last 3 months

  3. Scan of the passport biodata page

  4. Proof of a return ticket from Myanmar. If they will enter at Kawthaung land border, attach a trip plan instead

  5. Proof of hotel or boat booking. They must stay in a registered hotel, motel, inn, guesthouse, resort, or on a boat

  6. Visa, Mastercard, or JCB for the online fee

A child under 7 on the same passport: put the child’s name and date of birth in the minor section of the form.

About This Visa

Ministry of Hotels and Tourism grants a tourist visa on arrival to Indian and Chinese citizens at international airports. MOT titles this as a one-year pilot from 30 August 2025. A separate MOT announcement on that date says the pilot is extended until 29 August 2026. Keep both; quote the MOT terms the day they fly.

USD 50 per person. Stay up to 30 days. Tourist visits only. No extension. Overstay is fined. Passport must have at least 6 months left — if it does not, they are refused and sent back on the same airline. Entry can still be refused if security or immigration (including a blacklist) does not allow it.

This is not the e-Visa. Prefer the e-Visa when they will use a listed e-Visa port and want the letter before they fly.

Documents Required

Official VOA terms — https://tourism.gov.mm/en/information-pages/visa-on-arrival

  • Visa-on-arrival form at the airport (no charge for the form)
  • Two colour photos, 1.2 × 1.5 inches
  • Ordinary passport, valid at least 6 months
  • USD 50 per person

They must keep to open areas for foreigners. Restricted areas stay closed.

About This Visa

Use this when they need a sticker from the Embassy of Myanmar in New Delhi instead of the e-Visa or visa on arrival. The Embassy tourist row is USD 40 / INR 3360 for 28 days. The Embassy notes that rupee amounts change with the USD exchange rate. Keep this table next to the e-Visa / VOA USD 50 figures — they are different channels.

Submit Monday–Friday 10:00–11:00. Collect 16:00–17:00. Processing is generally two working days. Pay by demand draft to “Myanmar Embassy” only. No cash. No extra service fee at the counter. Visa fees are waived for children under 7 (no demand draft for them). An interview may be required.

The Embassy visa page still has a pandemic line saying on-arrival and e-Visa are not applicable. MOT currently publishes both. Do not treat that Embassy line as a current ban.

Documents Required

Embassy of Myanmar, New Delhi — general list for all visa types

  1. One copy of the entry visa application form, filled and signed

  2. Two recent photos, 1½ × 2 inches, white background

  3. Passport valid at least 6 months, plus a copy

  4. Demand draft from any Indian bank, payable to “Myanmar Embassy” (not for children under 7)

Attach whatever extra papers the Embassy lists for that visa type. The tourist form is linked from the Embassy visa page.

2. Good to Know

Rules and notes that apply to every visa type

How to apply

  1. e-Visa (usual): open https://evisa.moip.gov.mm only. Complete the tourist form, upload the papers, pay USD 50. Wait for the approval letter. Print it. Enter at a listed e-Visa port; the visa is stamped on arrival.
  2. Visa on arrival: land at an international airport with the form, two photos, a 6-month passport, and USD 50. Confirm the pilot is still running the day they fly.
  3. Embassy: take the form, photos, passport, and demand draft to New Delhi. Submit 10:00–11:00. Collect 16:00–17:00. Generally two working days.

Who can apply

  • Indian ordinary-passport holders need a visa. They are not visa-free.

  • Visa on arrival: Indian (and Chinese) tourists at international airports, under the MOT pilot.
  • Embassy sticker: New Delhi, when they need a paper visa.
  • The Embassy fee table has no tourist transit type. Do not invent one.

  • Tourist fee on the portal application page: USD 50.00. Non-refundable.

Watch-outs

  • Do not quote visa-free for an Indian ordinary passport.
  • Two tourist fees: e-Visa and VOA are USD 50. Embassy tourist is USD 40 / INR 3360. Keep both.
  • VOA: no extension. Overstay is fined.
  • e-Visa approval letter expires 90 days from issue — they must enter before it lapses.
  • e-Visa is not valid at a seaport.
  • Restricted areas for foreigners still apply. MOT points to mip.gov.mm for that map.
  • The Embassy visa page has a stale pandemic line. Follow MOT e-Visa and VOA pages for those two channels.

How to track

e-Visa: use the acknowledgement email after payment, then the status tools on https://evisa.moip.gov.mm.

Embassy sticker: collection is 16:00–17:00 on a working day. Processing is generally two working days.
