Indian ordinary-passport holders: free 30-day tourist ETA from 25 May 2026. Ordinary passports are included. They still must get the ETA before travel on https://www.eta.gov.lk/slvisa/. Do not send them to pay the old SAARC tourist fee (US$20 / US$25 on arrival) while this free scheme is in force. An ETA paid before 25 May 2026 is not refunded.

Stay is 30 days from first arrival, with double entry only inside that 30-day window. Usual staff path: apply online. High Commission New Delhi sends tourist files to the same ETA site — not a walk-in tourist visa.

Apply on https://www.eta.gov.lk/slvisa/ before travel. Keep the approval.

Stay in Sri Lanka must end at least 2 months before the travel document expires (Immigration visit-visa page).

Use this only if they will stay past the free 30-day tourist ETA. Apply after arrival on https://eservices.immigration.gov.lk/vs/login.php, or at the Department of Immigration and Emigration head office, Suhurupaya, Battaramulla. Do not use other websites.

India is on the official free-visa nationals list that may extend by paying the table. Immigration fee table for India: USD 60 (31–90 days), USD 150 (91–180), USD 200 (181–270). Double entry exists only in the first 30 days and is cancelled if they extend in that window. A paid extension is cancelled on departure.

If they file at the head office, they must be present to apply and to collect. Intended stay must end at least 2 months before the travel document expires. Children under 12 who stay more than 30 days from first arrival also pay the extension fee.
